How to Take Care of You When Times are Tough

I’m not sure about you, but I certainly struggle with taking care of everyone around me and forgetting to take care of myself in the meantime. Sometimes, it comes down to me getting sick or having a flare up of my Rheumatoid Arthritis before I recognize that it’s time to take a step back and do a little self-care. The past year has been an incredibly stressful one for many and, while it’s tempting to focus on putting the oxygen mask on everyone else before we put our own on, eventually we will burn out.

If that’s something you are struggling with, the following challenge is just for you.

Taking Care of You When Times are Tough

Self-care is often not made a priority for a myriad of reasons, but if we don’t take the time to take care of ourselves, then we risk getting sick, burned out, or giving up entirely on whatever project or commitments we are responsible for.

You might be able to use the excuse that you are “too busy”, but the reality of the situation is that if something is a priority to you, you will make time for it.

This week it’s time to prioritize yourself. I’m not saying to let go of all of your commitments, stop taking care of the kids, or neglect your spouse, but rather, your challenge is to schedule at least one hour (if you have time for more, definitely go for it!) for the purpose of rejuvenating yourself.

Some ideas you might want to embrace:

  • Take a long, uninterrupted bubble bath. (You know until the water gets cold and you reluctantly get out…)
  • Put in your headphones and dance around your room. (Looking for a few of my favorites? You can find them HERE.)
  • Spend time in your craft room, either starting a new project or finishing one you’ve put on the back burner.
  • Take a long drive with the music turned up.
  • Read a book, magazine, or blog you’ve been looking forward to.
  • Spend time baking your favorite treat.
  • Watch a movie that no one else in your family cares for.

There are endless options, so pick something that relaxes you and makes you feel like you’ve taken a break. Trust me, you’ll come back to your “regular” life with a greater sense of being able to handle whatever is thrown at you.

Have an awesome day!

Love,

Sarah

P.S. Will you tell me your plan for self-care in the comments below? I’d love to hear and who knows, someone else might find their great idea by reading your suggestion.
