Encouragement Challenge: The Power of a Donation

I struggle a lot to keep my home free of clutter. The thing is, I live with a group of people who love to keep EVERYTHING, right down to the papers that should have been trashed years ago and the two extra coffee pots “we might need for some future event”. Is that a struggle you face, too?

Encouragement Challenge: The Power of a Donation

Well, this week the challenge involves simply picking one thing (make it something that is really driving you nuts) to donate to charity. It could be something that you’ve held onto for years but has only collected dust, a family heirloom that you never liked to begin with, or just an item that you purchased and never actually needed.

Just one item, you ask? In my opinion, the first item is the hardest. Once I get started, I normally don’t want to go to the donation center with only one item, so I’m more likely to find several items to donate along with the first one. Of course, that’s completely up to you.

Note: If you are struggling to let go of something that you rarely use and may never use again, just because it’s “perfectly good”, remember that there is someone else out there that would probably love to have that item and use it regularly.

Your Assignment

Donate that one item.

Return home and breathe a sigh of relief that you did it and don’t have to worry about (cleaning, dusting, moving, storing…) that item any longer. Sure, it might feel a little uncomfortable to have done so, but a few weeks from now, when you need that space for something else, you’ll be happy you did so!

Leave a comment below and let me know what you donated and why you picked that item. It might sound weird, but it might just encourage someone else to do the same.

Speaking of someone else, why don’t you share this post with a friend and encourage them to join in the challenge?

Tip: If you didn’t choose to donate everything, why not grab my FREE Cleaning Checklist to keep you on track in the weeks and months to come!
