Encouragement Challenge: Sacrifice for Gain

Sure, you’ve already created your monthly budget and you are happily moving forward. Today, I’m going to throw a bit of a wrench into that, with the hope that you will be able to save even more than you already planned to.

Encouragement Challenge: Sacrifice for Gain

Pick a small amount of money this week. Personally, I’m going to aim to save an additional $15 for a big purchase we intend to make in the future. It might not seem like much, but with the way we plan our budget each week, it will take a little bit of work to put that extra aside.

Achieve That Goal

Once you’ve decided how much you are going to save and what you are saving for, look for ways you can do so.

  • Do you pay with cash regularly? If so, could you add the change you get each time you pay to this amount?
  • Are you grocery shopping this week? Could you leave one or two items behind that you might not miss and have an extra couple of dollars?
  • Could you refrain from one cup of coffee from Starbucks and make a pot of coffee at home with what you already have?

It’s not so much how you manage to save the money as much but that you actually do save the money. Sure, it might seem a little painful at the moment, but you know how the saying goes: “No Pain, No Gain”.

Let’s make the decision to prioritize our future over the moment we have right now.
