I don’t know about you, but I LOVE finding new resources to incorporate into my everyday life in the form of books, blogs, and podcasts. This month, is no different, and I have several fantastic options for you to choose from.
Books, Bloggers, and Podcasts: February Edition
You’ll quickly find that there is a theme: transformation and encouragement. It’s been a theme here on the blog because it’s definitely been a part of my day-to-day life.
Books
In my opinion, there’s nothing better than sitting down in the middle of the winter months with a great book, or even putting it in my ears via audiobook so that I can get a little multi-tasking in while I’m on my daily walk. A few of my favorites:
The 12 Week Year by Brian B. Moran and Michael Lennington
It was the subtitle, Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months, that really caught my attention. Coming out of last year, I felt like I had more ideas than time to complete them and something had to give with my goal planning. Brian and Michael’s book did just the trick. Rather than planning out my entire year (although a did a bit of brainstorming in that direction) they encouraged me to focus on the year as just the first 12 weeks and worry about what comes next after that time period.
Trust me, folks, I have been able to get more done in the past few weeks than ever before, just following their simple process. (Grab your copy HERE.)
Note: I “read” this as an Audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator, so if you like to listen instead of having a physical copy in hand, this is definitely one I recommend for that!
The ONE Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan
Do you often struggle with what’s important in your weeks, days, and hours? Do you end up at the end of a week, wondering whether you actually accomplished anything important? If so, this book is a fantastic read that will give you perspective on how to put “first things first” so that you can see that important dream fulfilled in your own life. (You can grab your copy HERE.)
Note: I “read” this as an Audiobook and had a hard time following the narration. I highly recommend purchasing this one as a physical copy if possible and allowing yourself the chance to take notes as well.
Another Place At The Table by Kathy Harrison
Our journey to adoption started with this book. It might not seem like much, but Kathy’s heartbreakingly honest story of her family’s experience with foster care and adoption grabbed my heart in my early 20s and wouldn’t let go. I’ve probably read the book over twenty times from cover to cover and highly recommend it to anyone who wants an inside perspective into the real-life situations that come with bringing a foster child into your home and heart. (Grab your copy HERE.)
Blogs
Sometimes we just need a little bit of bite-sized inspiration in our day, and that’s where great blogs come in.
Momleficent
Carly is a self-proclaimed “hot mess” working mother. She uses her blog to share ideas on everything from parenting to food and travel and works hard to create a judgment-free, honest place for moms to converge. I can always count on Carly to have a treat idea for every holiday and an encouraging word for my own parenting journey. If you haven’t had a chance to check out her blog, I highly recommend you do! (You can find her HERE.)
Fluxing Well
As a school librarian, I was immediately drawn to Lisa’s books recommendations, not only for adults but kids, too! As a woman who found herself in a constant state of flux (change), she opted to start her blog in an attempt to help others as they go through similar situations. Expect to find encouragement, food dishes, book reviews, and simple remedies for otherwise complicated situations. My personal favorite is her post on Untangling the Family Tree.
Podcasts
On any given day (unless the snow is over my boots), I’m out walking the streets of my neighborhood listening to encouraging and business-related podcasts. I’ve been mostly just keeping up with the podcasts I’ve recommended thus far, but after a recommendation from a friend, decided to try out this new one as well.
Cultivate Your Life with Lara Casey
As a wife, mother, and successful business owner, Lara Casey started her podcast with the purpose of encouraging other women in the cultivation of their dreams. While there are only a few episodes to-date, each podcast brings with it her bubbly and cheerful perspective, tips, and strategies for “cultivating what matters in your life”. Give it a try, I’m sure you’ll find it to be a new favorite of yours as well!
