How to Spring Clean Your Family Life (And Your Home, Too)

I hope you found Day 1 of this challenge and are as excited as I am to have your digital life more organized. I bet I’m not the only one that typed in the old password this morning before remembering I’d changed it. Don’t worry, soon it will be a habit and you won’t even think about it! If you missed the first day of the challenge, I highly recommend that you check out those tasks, before continuing on with today’s challenge to spring clean your family life.

I’m sure that we can all come up with a long list of all the things that have taken place in our families over the past year, good or bad. Many have found themselves in arguments with siblings, disagreeing with their parents, and frustrated with the dynamics happening in their own homes. Perhaps you’ve actually lost a loved one this year, and you are struggling with how to move forward. No matter where you’ve been, or what’s happened, there’s always room in our families for a bit of Spring Cleaning. Today is that day.

Spring Clean Your Family Life

Task 1: Immediate Family

Evaluate your routine. If it’s grown stale, or dare I say boring, plan a fun experience for the whole family. Keep in mind that this doesn’t have to include spending a lot of money. Take a hike, a bike ride, go to the library…all of those are good family-togetherness activities. Looking for additional ideas? Check out my Family Pinterest Board for more activities.

If your day-to-day family life is non-stop all of the time, consider what commitments or activities you could remove to give your family more time to rest together. Discuss it as a family, if necessary, and determine how you will make a change.

Task 2: Extended Family

Call, write, or FaceTime an extended family member that may be struggling or going through a rough time. Be supportive and find out how you can be helpful, even if it only involves offering a listening ear or prayers.

Day 2 Cleaning Tasks: Bathroom and Laundry Room

Tasks to complete:

  • Scrub grout
  • Clean glass doors
  • Deep clean floors (hand scrub, if necessary)
  • Empty drawers and cupboards, disposing of anything that is no longer useful
  • Clean garbage cans
  • Clean light fixtures
  • Toilet, sink, mirrors, counters
  • Vacuum lint trap
  • Vacuum behind washer and dryer
  • Wipe inside washer and outside of both the washer and dryer. If your washer has a cleaning cycle, run it now.
  • Washtub sink
  • Additional hard surfaces wiped down

Having fun with this challenge? I sure hope so!
